One For Frank

Morecambe Car Club has announced details of its 2026 Illuminations Tour, which will take place on Saturday 6 June under the title One for Frank, in memory of Frank Fennell.

This year’s event is being dedicated to the memory of Frank Fennell, a good friend of Morecambe Car Club and a three-time winner of the Classic Illuminations Rally, who sadly passed away last October.

The choice of theme continues the club’s tradition of giving each Illuminations Tour its own distinctive character, while also reflecting the strong sense of history and friendship that runs through the event.

On the 2022 Platinum Jubilee the route through Winster Ford was an option, which typically Ireland's Frank Fennell, Philip Armstrong and Rory Dooley chose to take!

Starting and finishing at the Longlands Hotel, Tewitfield, the tour will revisit the spirit of past Illuminations events, with a route that follows in the wheel tracks of rallies from the Motoring News Championship era through to the much-loved Classic Lumies of the 1990s and early 2000s.

The club is planning approximately 150 miles through some of the best rallying country in North West England, with optional tea, coffee and lunch halts along the way.

Competitors will receive an all-tulip roadbook together with 1:50,000 scale maps, and the organisers promise plenty of nostalgic touches. Notes along the route will highlight memories, incidents and stories from the days when road rallying played a major role in British motorsport, stirring memories for long-time competitors and sparking interest among those newer to the sport.

The tour is open to everyone, including both Morecambe Car Club members and non-members. Rally cars and classics will no doubt add to the atmosphere, but any road-legal vehicle can take part, making it an accessible and enjoyable day out for anyone with an interest in touring, rally history and good company.

Entry is £70 for a crew of two, which includes a breakfast roll, tea or coffee at the start, and a meal at the finish. Additional passengers are £30 each.
